David Weatherston's sublime volley midway through the second 45 earned victory for Queen's at Links Park today.

After the fans endured a dire first half, Alan Trouten slipped a lofted through ball onto the young Weatherston who elegantly chipped the onrushing Andy Reid with a volley, though, after that goal The Spiders endured some nervy moments before eventually hanging onto the important victory.

As I have already mentioned the first half was a poor affair and Queen's only created two decent chances. The first real chance was when a chip by Dunlop was hit on the volley by Trouten, but, the effort was tame to say the least.

Montrose then came into the game, and only Steve Kerrigan will know how he did not score when he was let in one on one with Crawford midway through the first half.

David Weatherston came close for Queens' on injury time, he had a high shot blocked by a defender as it looked goalbound.

In the second half Queen's looked better, creating more chances with Mark Ferry and Tony Quinn both forcing saves out of Reid.

And, on 55 minutes Queen's took the lead, Weatherston lobbing Reid after a through a ball by Trouten.

Queen's created a handful of chances afterwards but none of them looked like troubling Reid in goal, until Kettlewell dinked a ball across the six yard box, Proctor stretched with his head but the ball was too fast.

Queen's survived a late scare when the no.9 rattled the bar with a sublime volley from 25 yards, but, Queen's held out for a well deserved win.
