Unlucky Spiders , Queen's Park 1 - 2 Peterhead

Peterhead made the long journey south to Hampden today and came away with a hard fought three points.

The Highlanders came to Glasgow top of the pile while the Queen's were sitting in the dizzy heights of third place.

It was also a day where both of the three top scorers in the division both got on the scoresheet.

The visitors stuck it right to us from the word go. Scott Michie & Martin Bavidge with chances in the first eight minutes.

On the 9th minute the Blue Toon took the lead. Bavidge put a through ball in and a Gavin Rushford slip allowed Michie to score his tenth of the campaign.

But the spiders were level on the 12th minute. Ally Graham nodded into the six yard box where Ross Clark rebounded the ball of Raeside & Mathers but Frankie Carroll equalised from a tap in from two yards.

Martin Bavidge had been troubling the spiders but only Davie Crawford had kept us in it. Bavidge & Robertson both had shots denied by the young 'keeper

Queen's also had their chances the best when Alan Trouten found himself lost on the left side his cut inside then strike forced an excellent save by Paul Mathers.

David McCallum's corner found Brian Blair who nearly found the bottom corner as Trouten already did.

The Half Time whistle sounded at 1 - 1.

The Spiders nearly took the lead after 52 minutes. Ross Clark's corner found Big Ally whose header narrowly sailed over the crossbar.

Stuart Kettlewell then let Frankie Carroll through but his wild shot went well wide.

Billy Stark made his first change on 57 minutes. Mark Ferry coming on for Brian Blair as he made his debut at Hampden Park.

The Blue Toon then thought they had scored through Hagen but he was adjudged to be offside by the linesman who had a busy time with offsides.

QP then again somehow did not go 2-1 down. Campbell's long range effort hit Agostini it then rolled along the line into the arms of Crawford. The GOAL! sign did come up on the scoreboard but the assistant signalled that is was not.

Then the side from the North-East had a great escape. Frankie Carroll stretched for a ball from 6 yards but Robbie Raeside cleared off the line.

But in 75 minutes Peterhead were in front. Jamie Buchan took a long range strike after a Molloy slip his shot deflected off Rushford and by the outstretched Crawford.

Billy Stark looked to rescue the game after 79 minutes. Bringing off Ross Clark for Bryan Felvus to revert to three up front.

Late on frustration began to show. Alan Trouten was booked for Dissent after 87 minutes while Gibson was booked for a rash challenge.

How Gibson avoided a second yellow was beyond me when less than 30 seconds after being booked he brought down McCallum from behind but referee Craig Thomson only gave a free kick.

But the Blue Toon held out. Twice Graham came close but Mathers held them both comfortably.

An international break next week then a battle to win back third place over the other highlanders Elgin.
