Super Sub Clark Sinks Stunned Berwick, Berwick Rangers 1 - 2 Queen's Park

Queen's Park secured what was arguably their best result of the season at the home of old friends Berwick Rangers, Shielfield Park.

The Spiders had failed to score in four games and lost their previous two games shipping six goals at Cowdenbeath and losing 1-0 against Berwick only a week and a half ago.

Their was a welcome boost on the injury front with David Weatherston recovering from a niggling groin strain and Richard Sinclair returning. Mick Dunlop and Steven Reilly also returned from suspension.

So, in came Dunlop, Reilly, Sinclair and Ferry out went Whelan, Molloy, Agostini and Proctor.

Queen's started on the back foot Kevin McLeish forcing a save from Crawford but Alan Trouten did have a shot whistle wide from 20 yards resulting from a Paul Harvey corner kick. Berwick were using their muscle to run through the Spiders defence though a couple of promising Berwick moves were stopped well by the partnership of Reilly and Sinclair, whose presence had tightened up a shaky defence of late.

Even though the first half did little to excite the 249 fans who bothered to turn up on a cold and wet Tuesday night, but, they were to be enthralled by the quick start to the second half.

Paul Harvey won a free kick on the touchline and whipped it in, Tony Quinn nodded down and Kettlewell flicked it on, and the pacy David Weatherston tucked home from six yards. Manic celebrations ensued on and off the pitch with Berwick keeper O'Connor and his centre half (who had more than a striking resemblance for The Elephant Man, John Merrick) complaining about the alleged use of a hand.

But, moments later the aforementioned centre half popped up with the equaliser, a simple high corner to the near post powered home with Crawford beaten all ends up.

Berwick missed a few good chances from corner kicks with Kevin Haynes heading wide and McLeish doing the same and Dunlop had to be alert to prevent Haynes having a one on one with Crawford as he dashed across the box to halt the giant hitman.

After that Quinn was replaced by Clark who moved to partner Weatherston up front, that meant that Paul Harvey could drop back into midfield and Queen's took control from then on.

Paul Paton had a goalbound shot blocked by what looked to be the hand of Chris McGroarty before with seven minutes left Queen's stole the points.

David Weatherston won the ball out wide after a break from a Berwick corner he dived and dodged through two defenders on the far side before hitting the by line, Clark, Paton and Ferry were all queueing up to have a shot and it was the sub Clark who done so tucking it in past the helpless O'Connor from fifteen yards. Utter pandemomium on the terraces and on the park with Clark making a triumphant return after only a couple of weeks ago he sustained what was rumoured to be a serious injury.

A great victory which sets us up nicely for Saturday's crunch match at Hampden against Elgin City.
