Stenny Shocked by Spiders , Queen's Park 4 - 3 Stenny

Stenhousemuir came to Hampden with the absence of manager Des McKeown and Queen's used this difficult fixture to break a run of 4 defeats on the trot.

Billy Stark made one change from the side that lost 4-1 to Gretna last week. Stuart Kettlwell returned from suspension and replaced Brian Blair.

We started brightly with Ally Graham giving Kettlewell a header on goal but he put it wide. But the Warriors also had a chance. Lee Collins ran on and DC slid and won the ball. We were lucky that Collins was not trying to score but trying to con referee Ian Fyfe.

When you watch Queen's we should be used to this kind of stuff , that's referring to the opener. Paul McGrillen raced into the penalty area and even though it seemed that Alan Trouten won the ball a penalty was awarded and McGrillen put The Warriors in the lead impressing the fans hailing from Stenhousemuir and the fans that came from Norway who had made the trip.

Queen's could have responed Paul Harvey sent Trouten up the right hand side but ran on too long and made it impossible for himself with the angle he was at.

On 23 minutes Queen's had a penalty appeal of their own turned down.. Paul Harvey swung in a corner. Ricky Sinclair won the header as the players thought there was a handball but Fyfe turned down the appeal.

Stenny again could have extended their lead. Shaun Molloy forced to head narrowly over his own bar. At the other end Willie McCulloch held a Mark Ferry header comfortably.

With eight minutes till Half-Time they finally extended. Laughlin ran through Sinclair and Rushford and calmly slotted past DC. Game Over were the words going through my head but the Spiders were to prove me wrong in the second half.

There was one change at Half-Time when Steve Reilly replaced Gav Rushford , Reilly's first appearance since being injured at Forfar in August.

It took only 6 minutes for Queen's to get one back. A long ball from midfield found Carroll with no defenders. He rounded McCulloch but the Stenny keeper got a touch to force it wide. Carroll did not panic and calmly cut the ball inside Ross Clark then smashed the ball past McCulloch.

Only a minute later though Stenny looked to finish the game. A quick Collins free kick unleashed Ryan Davidson on the right hand side and he fired the ball low past Crawford.

Queen's would not lie down and on an hour we brought ourselves back in it . Stuart Kettlewell crossed to the back post where Mark Ferry rifled home.

Unbeliavebaly only 10 minutes later we were level. Frankie Carroll ran up the right hand side and was adjudjed to be brought down by a Stenny defender. Ian Fyfe awarded the second dubious spot kick of the game and skipper Ross Clark easily dispatched it past McCulloch.

Now the game was becoming frantic and Stenny's timewasting tactics no more. But that did not matter Queen's soon made it four. Frankie ran up the right hand side and rifled in a cross with Stenny defender Paul Murphy guiding the ball into his own net. From then Queen's held out and settled for the final score of 4-3
