SFL 3rd Division - Queen's Park 5 - 0 Montrose

Billy Stark made only one change from the sixteen who lost 2-0 to Berwick Rangers last week, Drumchapel Amateurs bound Tommy Murray replaced on the bench by Robert Dunn.

Queen's had made a very lucky escape early in the match when Michie was brought down in the box by Richard Sinclair, it looked a definite penalty but thankfully referee Chris Boyle decided it did not warrant a spot kick.

Then somehow Andy Rodgers missed an open goal as he slid in to connect with Michie's crossball along the six yard line at the back post. Queen's had negotiated this difficult period and went on to take the ascendancy. Ferry forced a great one handed stop from Reid and Alan Trouten lobbed over from six yards when released by a neat through pass from Stuart Kettlewell.

It was Ketts who was to go on to play a big part in the opener when he made a great diagonal run as he raced to connect Paul Cairney's pass as he done so out came Montrose keeper Reid who hauled down the midfielder and ref Boyle awarded a penalty. Stevie Canning, who netted from the spot at Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill, sent the ball low to Reid's right as the keeper dived the wrong way.

Canning, Trouten, Weatherston and Ronald all missed good chances to double the advantage but with only seven minutes left in the half we finally did rubberstamp our advantage with a second. Mark Ferry's wonderful 25 yard volley was goalbound before Donachie's deflection sent it looping over Reid and into the back of the net.

The second half started with Queen's on top again and after squandering more chances came number three which finished the game off. A low cross by David Weatherston was turned into his own net at the back post by the luckless Donachie.

Three minutes later a delightful piece of skill by Paul Cairney opened up the Montrose defence, the ball took a lucky spin off Donachie and it sat up nicely for Alan Trouten who delightfully placed the ball over Reid into the top corner for ten yards to make it 4-0. The game was finished off on 76 minutes when a delightful move allowed Tony Quinn to score number five.

Cairney passed to Canning who played the ball into the feet of sub Frankie Carroll who flicked the ball left to the running Weatherston just inside the box and his perfectly weighted back post cross was perfectly headed home by big Quinno, who was more than a brush happy.
