SFL 3rd Division - Queen's Park 2 - 1 Albion Rovers

Last updated : 05 November 2006 By Andyboy
Paul Ronald had a header held by Albion Rovers keeper Jamie Ewings right at the beginning of the half, but otherwise there weren't many goal scoring chances until the game burst into life around the 35 minute mark.

Mark Ferry rattled the junction of bar and post with a screaming shot from a tight angle on the left hand side of the 18 yard box. A Paton corner from the right should have been converted but Ronald, Quinn and Trouten all failed to apply the killer touch as the ball flew across the box.

The second half started in similiar fashion for QP. Kettlewell came close with a fizzing drive from the edge of the box before Tony Quinn had a powerful header from Paton's free kick well held by Ewings.

Scott Chaplain and ex Spider Bryan Felvus both missed good opportunities for the visitors before we finally took the lead. A brilliant run up the left by the stunning David Weatherston found him almost on the byeline and his cutback to the edge of the box was slammed home with power by Alan Trouten to send Spiders into the lead.

Less than a minute later though, Rovers were level, straight from the kick off the ball was crossed in from the left hand side and Dirties forward Chaplain bagged his 11th goal of the season headng past Cairns from close range.

Spiders had a Quinn header wrongly ruled out for offisde moments later and finally made their dominance count with a penalty with only 8 minutes left. Weatherston skinned Lennox and found himself one-on-one with Ewings, the Rovers keeper inexplicably threw young Davie to the ground. Penalty and captain cool Stephen Reilly slid it past Ewings to spark wild celebrations.

Next up for Queen's is a trip to Montrose next week, wonder if we can make it 5 on the trot.
