Neither side created much in the first period but United grabbed the lead through Allan Russell in the middle of the half when Paul Paton and Shaun Molloy both missed chances to clear a low cross into the box.

Queen's battled away throughout the second half but found their finishing poor and United keeper Stevie Robertson on top form. He made a stunning late save to deny Stevie Canning a goal from the edge of the box.
