Queen's Comeback breaks Hampden hoodoo, Queen's Park 3 - 1 Albion Rovers

Before kick off it had been over six years since Queen's took three points from a home game against our friends from Coatbridge.

And, late goals had something to do with that. Twice since our last victory against Rovers at Hampden, Queen's had lost 1-0 leads in the sixth minute of injury time.

'Rovers 'keeper Scott Shearer headered home an equaliser in 2002 & last season Jed Stirling curled in a soft free-kick.

But today there was genuine optimism that Queen's would break the hoo-doo.

A promising display by the young Spiders side against Hearts on Tuesday lifted Queen's fans after the woeful 3-1 loss to Berwick Rangers and there was only one change from the side that played so well against the SPL leaders.

Stephen Reilly replacing Shaun Molloy who dropped to the bench.

Well, Queen's started poorly and the first chance of the game produced a Rovers goal.

A Scott Friel cross was headed home powerfully by ex-Spider Martin Bonnar, his first competetive goal since scoring at Hampden against Queen's for Hamilton in 2002, after sixteen minutes.

Queen's first opportunity took 30 minutes to materialise. Stuart Kettlewell testing Rovers 'keeper Jamie Ewings.

Ewings was called into action again within minutes, Mark Ferry's header brilliantly saved by the Rovers keeper.

Queen's took to the field for the second forty-five with one change to the ranks. John Weir replaced by young Bryan Felvus.

And, instantly Queen's equalised. A right wing cross by Kettlwell was missed by both Ewings & Felvus and Mark Ferry powerfully rattled home from two yards.

Four minutes later, unbelievably, Queen's were ahead. A Paul Harvey cross acrobatically hit home by Ferry.

Queen's began to take the foot of the pedal but secured the game with a third goal in the 90th minute after a non-eventful forty minutes.

Bryan Felvus firing home a left foot shoot from 14 yards and cancelling out the possibility of another later Rovers equaliser.

So the hoo-doo is broken then, now, bring on Elgin.
