Queen's Come Reilly Close To Three Points, Arbroath 1 - 1 Queen's Park

Queen's emerged from Arbroath with a hard fought point which could have and maybe should have been three in a game that really was a tale of two goalkeepers.

Billy Stark made some changes to the side that drew with Elgin City on Saturday, Tony Quinn and Tommy Murray came in at the expense of Alan Trouten and Paul Harvey. John Weir made a welcome return to the sixteen after a lengthy injury.

Spiders lined up with Clark, Murray and Weatherston up front. Tony Quinn, Mark Ferry and Stuart Kettlewell made up the midfield with Paton, Dunlop, Sinclair and Reilly at the back. Crawford lined up in goals.

Arbroath were quicker out the blocks and took the lead in seven minutes. A Gavin Swankie corner went all the way to the back post and Robbie Raeside smacked the ball through the middle of the defence.

Queen's, playing against the North Sea wind, were trying to get forward and the closest they came early on was when Quinn had a shot blocked after a long throw by Clark. Queen's were turned down what looked to be a stonewall penalty when Ian Dobbins held Ross Clark to the ground in the Arbroath box, obvious decision ..... free kick to the Lichties, this was to set the tone for a horrific performance from the clearly overweight ref Hornby.

Seconds later Arbroath won a spot kick, Reilly was adjudged to have fouled McCulloch. Paton was booked for kicking the ball away, and, Marc McCulloch saw his penalty saved brilliantly by Man Of The Match David Crawford.

Queen's had a great spell at the beginning of the second half. They were holding possesion well around the Arbroath box and Queen's quickly got a goal. Ross Clark's through ball was brilliant to Weatherston who with his left foot tucked the ball past former Spider (and championship hero) Neil Ingils.

Though Queen's did get slightly complacent after this, Crawford forced into two fine stops.

Mark Ferry and Tommy Murray both had shots well saved by the on form keeper and then The Spiders were awarded a spot kick. Dunlop drove a shot on goal and while the referee missed the blatant handball on the line he did notice the foul on Weatherston as he bore down on goal. Up stepped Stephen Reilly as usual, but, this time he missed. Ingils turning the penalty round the post.

The heads went down but Queen's dug in and secured a valuable point. A good result, bring on the Durties.
