Coatbridge Catastrophe As Playoff Hopes Take A Blow, Albion Rovers 1 - 0 Queen's Park

Queen's Park suffered one of their worst results of the season, losing 1-0 to ninth placed Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.

There were a few changes from the side that toiled at Firs Park, Alan Trouten dropped out due to suspension, Harvey and Weatherston took places on the bench. In came Bryan Felvus, Tommy Murray and Tony Quinn.

Billy Stark might claim he started with three up front but when you play two midfield players in the forward positions they are always going to drop back so it looked more like a 4-5-1 formation with Felvus the lone striker.

Queen's started brighter than Rovers Mark Ferry and Stuart Kettlewell both carving out early opportunities, but, the game soon bogged down into a battle on what was a travesty of a pitch, with only Felvus creating a real chance before the half time whistle, a loose pass by Murray was well chased by the youngster but Rovers keeper Gary McGlynn was quick off the line to block Felvie's effort.

The second half was more exciting for both sets of supporters, Ciaran Donnelly coming close for Rovers when Sinclair played a ball to Crawford way too short seconds after the restart. Queen's had a decent penalty shout turned down when McGlynn looked to foul Ross Clark and then came the chance that could have turned the game.

A free kick from thirty yards curled towards goal by Felvus and McGlynn could only watch it rattle the post. Moments later Rovers clearly did not learn their lesson another free kick in the same position, Felvus again, this time he curled it low into the corner, but, bizzarely up went the linesmans flag after what was a non existent offside.

Sub Weatherston should have done better when unleashed one on one with McGlynn moments later but he put his shot right at the former Montrose and Alloa keeper.

And, it got even worse with eight minutes left, Crawford and Sinclair combining for what has to be one of the worst own goals in Spiders history after a tame shot by Craig Young. And that was it. It can only get better.
