Beaten but not disgraced, Queen's Park 0 - 2 Hearts

Queen's Park bravely went out of the League Cup with a 2-0 defeat to SPL leaders Hearts.

Queen's made two changes to the side that meekly surrendered the points to Berwick on Saturday, Richard Bowers & Andy McGinty replacing Davie Weatherston & Stephen Reilly to accomadate a 4-5-1 formation.

Hearts named a side with no fewer than four Scottish internationals in the 16 players. Paul Hartley, Andy Webster, Stephen Pressley & Craig Gordon all involved while Champion's League winner Edgar Jankauskas started up front.

Hearts started the stronger and took fifteen minutes to create a decent chance - and - they scored it.

A comical series of errors from Andy McGinty, Richard Sinclair & Shaun Molloy let Devidas Cesnauskis strike from the edge of the box, Crawford only managed to parry it, and Jankauskas tapped in from two yards.

A Jamie McAllister corner was headed at goal by Jankauskas on 19 minutes but Ross Clark headed clear off the line.

Queen's then procceded to have their best spell of the game approaching half-time.

A Paul Harvey free-kick was headered by Andy McGinty but an acrobatic stop by Scotland #1 Craig Gordon prevented the youngster from grabbing his first Queen's goal.

From the resulting Harvey corner a scramble ensued and Tony Quinn only managed to poke his five yard volley way over the bar with his left foot.

But, Queen's being Queen's when promising signs began to show we made another stupid mistake at the back. A weak Cesnauskis cross was missed completely by Richard Sinclair and Jankauskas fired the ball in off the sprawled McGinty.

The second half passed mainly as non event. The best chance being Mark Ferry's glancing header which went narrowly wide.

Also, Ferry nearly scored with a 25 yard shot from the edge of the box which narrowly beat Craig Gordon's crossbar.

So, a promising performance and if we play like that against Rovers, we should win our first home game against the Coatbridge boys for six years.
