Reserve League Cup 2nd Round - Queen's Park 2 - 0 Arbroath

Last updated : 20 February 2007 By Andyboy
Early on, ex-Spider Willie Martin came close for Arbroath a couple of times before Tony Quinn forced a stunning stop from Lichties former East Fife keeper Scott Morrison to keep the scores level. Alan Trouten, Tony Quinn and Joe Savage of Smokies were then booked in quick succesion after some "handbags at dawn" stuff after a late Trouten challenge on Marc McCulloch.

The ref continued to flash the cards as if it were going out of fashion as three or four Lichties players were booked for challenges that were no more than slightly late. Paul McClory then missed a glorious chance blazing over from three yards after Ross Dunlop's cutback.

The second period started with Shaun Molloy tweaking a hamstring and being brought off, this was Shaun's first game after a long lay off with a hamstring injury and therefore could worry boss Billy Stark. Richie Bowers then headed off the crossbar for Spiders from a Jamie Brough corner.

Joe Savage missed two decent chances to give Lichties the lead before the end of the match. Queen's then took the game by the scruff of the neck in Extra Time and after 105 minutes, had the lead. Richard Bowers blasted a free kick through the Smokies wall and into the net. The game was wrapped up after 115 minutes, when David Waters headed home a corner to make it 2-0 and set up a next round clash with Gretna at Lesser.
