A youthful Queen's Park select comfortably beat a strong Pollok Juniors side on the Lesser Hampden astroturf last night. The game was played to give Pollok practice on plastic ahead of their Scottish Cup match at Montrose.

Queen's Park started the better and created the best chance of a dull first period. Paul Cairney wriggled past a number of Lok defenders before racing through on goal and his low effort was well saved by Pollok's ex St Mirren goalkeeper Kris Robertson.

Queen's keeper Alexander Cowie then made a good stop to deny former Cowdenbeath forward Robert Downs and on the half hour former Ayr United skipper Raymond Logan hooked a volley over from ten yards as Pollok searched for an opener.

Queen's were beginning to over run their opponents as the second half began and Stuart McGrady's 30 yard piledriver beat sub keeper Ian Wilson but flew over the crossbar and landed on the top of the net. A few chances were missed before Spiders took the lead. A short free kick was played to Paul Cairney who ran past two players before sliding the ball low past Wilson and into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area.

Pollok were beginning to tire and before long it was 2-0 to Queen's. Shaun Molloy ran up the line and his powerful low cross was flicked on by sub Ross Dunlop into the path of a 19s striker who slid the ball into an empty net.
