Queen's Park continued their pre season with another defeat to SPL Opponents in Stepps, this time it was St Mirren who faced off against The Spiders.

Queen's lined up with quite a few changes from the side that was beaten comfortably 3-1 by Motherwell. In goals was veteran Mark Cairns, Paul Paton, Shaun Molloy, Damiano Agostini and Andy McGinty made up the defence. Canning, Kettlewell, Trouten, Ferry and Quinn were in midfield and A Trialist started as a lone striker.

The game took a while to get going with both sides doing no much more than going through the motions, but neither side came close to scoring until Steven Canning forced the Saints keeper into a save with a cheeky 50 yard lob which caught the Buddies netminder unawares, with much of the half gone.

Saints best opportunity was a brilliant whipped free kick by the no.11 which John Sutton only managed to divert the cross away from goal when he should have scored, under pressure from Andy McGinty.

The second half was a tad more enjoyable and Queen's played some good stuff in the Stepps sunshine. Mark Ferry forced a fine Buddies save after a clever corner and sub Kevin Proctor drilled a high volley into the keepers arms. They had a stonewall penalty denied when David Weatherston was brought down by former Queen's favourite Ian "Maxie" Maxwell and in the aftermath sub and honorary QPSA president was "sent off" by the referee for protesting the decision, the referee told Billy Stark to sub Dunlop and on came Richard Bowers.

St Mirren got the winner with around ten minutes left when the Buddies no 4 drilled a low shot past Crawford and into the net from eighteen yards after turning "Big D" Agostini.
