Queen's Park's end of season player of the year awards took place yesterday in the social club. Added on top of the usual awards was The Young Spiders Player Of The Year, voted for by members of the Young Spiders club and presented by member Maya Ross.
The winner was David Crawford, the goalkeeper started every game before an unforunate facial injury against Montrose and looks to have lost his starting place to veteran Mark Cairns, but, the netminders contribution this season has been massive nonetheless.
The next award was The Goal Of The Season award, voted for by supporters over the internet. The award was presented by another young spider Ross McMeekin, who handed it over to Bryan Felvus, for his fantastic lob which sunk Raith Rovers in December.
Next Up was the Comittee's Young Player Of The Year award presented to who the Club Commitee think was the best young player in the squad throughout the season, that award went to Paul Paton, the right back emerged in November and has not lost his place since being a vital player with a fantastic long pass. Thouroughly deserved, and handed over by club president Garry Templeman.
Then there was The Vicar handing over the Travel Club's Player Of The Year award, this is voted for as supporters travel home from away games on the Supporters Bus and was given to Stuart Kettlewell. Stuart has been The Spiders engine room in midfield and while he will miss the end of the season this award was very deserved.
Now it was Steven Reilly's turn to take centre stage, Stevie has been subject of rumours linking him to Airdrie United over the past weeks and had already won the Queen's Park Player Of The Day award after the 2-2 draw with Cowdenbeath. He was to be given both the Club and Supporters Player Of The Year awards by Garry Templeman and The Vicar and rightly so, Stevie has been a rock in defence this season and hopefully the big man does not decide to move on.
Roll on Shielfield, we can do it, and so can The Shire!!!!
