Formed in 2002 after Airdrieonians were bust, United caused controversy by buying out Clydebank and moving to Airdrie to represent the town. Still seen as Airdrieonians by the town, they were relegated last season after a three season spell in the First Division and will be looking to bounce straight back up next season.

The Lanarkshire club were beaten and relegated in the 1st Division Playoff Final last year by Stirling Albion, after a 3-2 defeat at New Broomfield.
