Whelan returns as Frankie delivers his Christmas Carroll , Peterhead 2 - 2 Queen's Park

Queen's travelled to Balmoor yesterday on the back of a dissapointing performance at Stranraer. But the 30 fans who travelled were rewarded with a great comeback from their Glasgow favourites.

With an injury crisis at Hampden it meant that youngsters Andy McGinty , Paul McClory & Tony Livingston made the bench along with a returning QP favourite Jonny Whelan.

So the Spiders started with Reilly , Molloy , Trouten & Rushford along the back with a 5-man midfield including Clark , Harvey , Ferry , Blair & Kettlewell supporting the lone striker Frankie Carroll.

Ref Finnie stamped his authority on the game early on , blowing his whistle at every possible moment.

The Peterhead attacked looked lively and Scott Michie's tenth minute overhead kick glided over the bar. Queen's were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the box minutes later but Harvey's effort , helped by wind & a deflection , went wide.

Queen's lost the opener after 28 minutes. Graeme Stewart chesting down and firing by DC in the spiders goal.

Queen's were looking pretty hopeless and Martin Bavidge & Scott Michie almost fired the home team into a 2 goal lead on several occasions.

In the second half QP looked more lively , Alan Trouten & Shaun Molloy both could have done better crosses , no trouble for the Peterhead goalie Paul Mathers.

Mark Ferry came close and a Shaun Molloy free-kick , given for a Perry foul on Trouten flew over the bar .

On 76 minutes what Spiders fans were waiting for happened , Favourite Jonny Whelan replaced Brian Blair.

Moments later the Blue Toon scored a second. A cross caused confusion between Rushford & Crawford let Tully nod home from 15 yds.

Queen's were in it a minute later though. Frankie Carroll headed home a Whelan knockdown.

Queen's should have equalised Jonny Whelan firing of a defender leaving Trouten to fire the volley off Mathers.

It was looking one of those so near yet so far days until the 90th minute  , Ross Clark rushed into the penalty box and he looked to throw himself at the ground Finnie pointed to the spot.

After bedlam for five minutes , Clark missed the penalty , but Mr.Lyon , the standside ref ordered a re-take. Which Steven Reilly converted. Bedlam ensuded on both stands as Reilly and the entire team celebrated towards the faithful support.

It was not over though , As the QP fans celebrated the Peterhead fans and players piled into the tunnel pursuing Mr.Finnie.
